Onyx is now past the four month mark. I've attached some pictures I’ve taken of him for you to see. He continues to entertain John and me on a daily basis, and we try not to let him hassle the dog toooo much. ;) As for a highlight-reel style update on our favorite little menace, here goes... He still thinks the dog is the best wrestling buddy ever, he's progressing nicely with toilet training, [they are teaching him to use the people toilet] he's discovered he can jump from the floor to the kitchen counter (though I immediately put the kabosh on this behavior) and has discovered all other shelves/walls/objects above three feet high. He's snuggly when he wants to be (especially when we get home from work) and at other times simply refuses to be contained, convinced that he's missing something incredibly exciting on the floor or in another room. He's finally figured out for the most part that play time happens before 10pm and that sleep time happens any time after 10pm. His own tail is still one of his absolute favorite toys to chase and bite on, and loves to trill/meow/chatter to us or himself. He's converted the (empty) bathtub into his own hockey rink where he loves to bat around his tin foil ball and knock all the shampoo bottles off the ledges. He doesn't seem to be super ecstatic about water but I have spotted him on several occasions just dipping his paws in the water bowl or sink. He made one heck of an artful, trailing mess of an almost complete roll of toilet paper one day, which was pretty comical, and still engages in the most random bursts of speed through the apartment. He's a good little traveler in the car but much prefers a spot on the back seat rather than inside his carrier. He's a hit with everyone we see at Petsmart (it takes me three times as long to get in and out of there as it used to) and is so comfortable in new situations. He'll crawl out of the cart (on his harness and leash), browse the shelves for a comfy bed or an interesting smelling toy and say hi to everyone we meet. When he's tired, he'll seek out the microfiber fur-like blanket we keep on the couch at home and actually nurse on it until he falls into comatose contentment. I actually wonder if this behavior might be a result of his earlier-than-he-wanted weaning from mom. He comes running at the smallest sound of his bean-filled stuffed monkey and is a healthy eater, coming in at 6.2 lbs as of a few minutes ago. Try as I might, he's still not at all a fan of having his nails clipped no matter how we try to contain him, scruff of the neck or otherwise. Last week I began taking him outside on his leash and harness whenever I take Grace downstairs to go potty. He's mostly brave and curious, loves to watch the birds and seems to be encouraged when he sees the dog blaze a trail down a path he hasn't been on before. I so often wish we could get Onyx a like-sized and like-armed (with many tiny sharp claws and teeth) playmate to push him around every once in a while. Especially when Grace looks at me like a babysitter in desperate need of a break from her tiny demanding charges. Too bad our apartment complex has a two pet limit. …. All the very best, Brianne Note: Brianne’s hobby is photography. She took the images of her 4 month old boy, Onyx above and is available to do pet photography for a very reasonable price.
